Your local community rail partnership

Your local community rail partnership

Blackmore Vale Line Community Rail Partnership covers Tisbury, Gillingham, Templecombe, Sherborne, Yeovil Junction, Crewkerne and Salisbury stations, on the South Western Railway West of England line from London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids. We are a Department of Transport accredited rail partnership and run by a board of 15 members. The coveted accolade of accreditation status gained by the rail partnership is a formal recognition by the Department of Transport (like Ofsted for schools). Accreditation demonstrates a rail partnership operates to a high standard with objectives and activities that are supported by government.

We work with local people, businesses, councils and voluntary and statutory groups to promote the railway and the regions beautiful towns and villages to potential rail-users and visitors. As well as encouraging greater community involvement in our member stations. The many facilities and extra enhancements provided by Station adopters, SWR staff and guards, and the rail partnership contribute to making attractive, welcoming stations for rail-users and visitors.

Having a mainline railway service and station is a great asset for the local area. Over thirty-five daily trains run in and out of the region and over half a million people use Gillingham station every year. The area of benefit covered by the railway and community rail partnership extends to more than one hundred and sixty predominately rural settlements. There are eleven major regional towns and villages in the three counties of Wiltshire, Dorset, and Somerset: Tisbury, Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Mere, Wincanton, Stalbridge, Marnhull, Sturminster Newton, Sherborne, Yeovil, Crewkerne and Chard.

‘Town Teams’ is a new initiative designed to bring together people interested in promoting their towns, villages and stations as gateway visitor destinations. If you are interested in joining us on this journey use the contact form at the end of this page to get in touch.
